During the period of 4 - 9 October 2022, a large number of air traffic movements associated with the Repco Bathurst 1000 Motor Race event are expected at Bathurst Airport (YBTH) and in the Bathurst area.

    The issue

Three Temporary Restricted Areas (TRAs) are proposed to support the increased number of air traffic movements associated with the Repco Bathurst 1000 Motor Race event at YBTH and the surrounding Bathurst area on 4 - 9 October 2022. The event will result in increased helicopter activity and military flying display aircraft.

    Purpose

To seek members feedback on the proposal to establish 3 TRAs at YBTH and the surrounding Bathurst area.

    Proposal

Three TRAs are proposed (R960, R961and R962),the TRAs are the same as used in previous years.

    1. R960 will be established in the interest of aviation safety, centred on YBTH (5NM radius, refer Appendix 3) on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October. The restricted area is necessary to exclude gliding, parachuting, ultralight, microlight and weight shift microlight activity in the interests of public safety.

    2. R961 will be established at Mount Panorama from Tuesday 4 until Sunday 9 October inclusive due to the aerial filming helicopter operating at high speed with regular direction changes.

    3. R962 will be established at Mount Panorama for short periods between Tuesday 4 and Sunday 9 October to provide for aviation safety during RAAF flying displays. Aircraft in the Mount Panorama area are required to be on the ground or remain clear of R962 during TRA activation periods.

Please refer to the attachment for further information on the proposed TRAs.
