4 temporary restricted areas (TRAs) are proposed to support a large number of air traffic movements associated with the Repco Bathurst 1000 Motor Race.

    The issue

Four TRAs are proposed, this includes one additional TRA (R962B) when compared to previous years. The TRA's will be active during the period of 3 - 8 October 2023. The event will result in increased helicopters activity and military flying display aircraft.

    4 TRAs are proposed:

    1. R960 will be established in the interest of aviation safety, centred on Bathurst aerodrome (YBTH) (5 nautical mile (n mile) radius, refer Appendix 3) on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 October. The restricted area is necessary to exclude gliding, parachuting, ultralight, microlight and weightshift microlight activity in the interests of public safety.
    2. R962 will be established at Mt Panorama from Tuesday 3 October until Sunday 8 October inclusive due to the aerial filming helicopter operating at high speed with regular direction changes.
    3. R962A and R962B will be established at Mt Panorama for short periods between Tuesday 3 and Sunday 8 October to provide for aviation safety during Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) flying displays. Aircraft in the Mt Panorama area are required to be on the ground or remain clear of 962AB during TRA activation periods. R962B will sit vertically (8500 feet - FL180) above previously used R962A. Please refer to the aeronautical information package supplement H58/23 for further information.
