The newly replaced Perth (Serpentine) radar is scheduled to return to service on Tuesday 29 November 2022, subject to any unforeseen delays.

From Tuesday 29 November 2022 images from the newly upgraded Perth (Serpentine) weather radar in Western Australia will be live on the Bureau of Meteorology's website and the BOM Weather app.

The new dual-polarised Doppler radar is one of the best tools for observing rainfall and wind conditions in real time across large areas. The upgraded Serpentine weather radar will provide better image resolution, better visibility of weather systems and less image interference. It will improve the image resolution between rain, hail and snow, and it will show higher quality images during intense rain and storms.

The upgraded radar will benefit communities, emergency services and local industry across the major centres of Perth, Bunbury and surrounding areas. The Bureau's recently upgraded Perth Airport weather was made available to the public to provide alternative radar images for the duration of the Serpentine outage. Following the upgrade to the Serpentine radar, images from the Perth Airport radar will only be made available if Serpentine is offline for maintenance or further upgrades. This project is part of the Bureau's ongoing work to enhance and improve the Australian radar and observation network.
