To advise members of the formal closure of Sydney Airport Meteorological Unit (SAMU) effective from Thursday, 28 April 2021.
After extensive discussion and agreement with the Aviation community, the Bureau of Meteorology will formally close Sydney Airport Meteorological Unit (SAMU) on Thursday 29th April 2021. Services provided by SAMU will be transferred to the Bureau's Aviation Forecast Centres (AFCs) and the Network Coordination Centre Meteorological Unit (NCCMET).
The SAMU team members have been operating off airport, as a "virtual" team, over the last six months, comprising staff members from Melbourne and Brisbane Aviation Forecasting Centres (AFCs). From Thursday, the responsibilities and communication channels will change with the formal transfer of services to the AFCs.
