To seek members feedback on the proposal to establish two temporary restricted areas (TRAs) due to high level rocket launching activity near Goondiwindi.
BTBA, a hobby rocketry organisation, is seeking to conduct rocket launching activity approximately 40NM NW Goondiwindi, Qld from 15 – 16 September 2020 (previous dates 17 - 20 September). Rocket launches from this location have been consulted with members many times previously.
The proponent has conducted preliminary consultation regarding the activity with known airspace users and other stakeholders. Now the OAR is consulting with AvSEF members regarding the proposed TRA.
Four rockets launches to an apogee of FL500 are proposed in launch windows from 0830 to 1100 and 1500 to 1600 (UTC) daily. These multiple windows are sought due to possible delays with the flights.
To mitigate residual airspace risks posed by the activity a TRA is proposed from SFC to FL125 within Class G airspace and another from FL125 to FL550 in the controlled airspace above.
Please see the attached paper for further information. Note - the rocket launching activity is now scheduled to proceed from 15 - 16 September 2020.
