Boundary changes are proposed to increase volume of useable airspace within R639B. D621B & D645 boundary movements are to align with new R639B boundary.

The issue

R639 airspace is used for military flying including Jet and Tanking activities. The airspace is primarily used by aircraft based at RAAF Base Amberley and RAAF Base Williamtown. The current volume of airspace within R639B does not allow for maximum capability particularly during tanking operations.

Change the south-eastern boundary of R639B to add approximately 300 NM squared. The change would require boundary changes to the danger area D621B underneath R639B and D645. These changes would overlap D621B and D645 – hence a boundary change for D645 would also be necessary.

The requested change would add additional airspace to the south-east portion of R639B. Please see the attached paper for further information.

Please note: Prior to 26 June, there was a typo in the attached paper in the third paragraph under "Proposal". The correct sentence, with the added word in bold, is: "The airspace change would provide maximum capability and minimal impact to civilian aircraft as it does not impede on any current air routes".
This typo was rectified and attached below.
