To seek feedback on a proposed Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) to be declared in support of Exercise KAKADU 2022 – Northern Australia.
The issue
- Proposed TRA is required for separation of dynamic military aviation activities and civil aviation.
- TRA activation windows.
- Advice of military maritime and aviation activities in general exercise area.
- Diversion routes likely to be required.
Purpose
To seek feedback on a proposed Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) to be declared in support of Exercise KAKADU 2022 – Northern Australia.
Military Exercise KAKADU 2022 (KA22) is a major Navy-led joint international exercise incorporating a wide range of tactical flying activity across the northern Australian coast and waters over the period 12- 25 September 2022. To ensure public safety and meet exercises training objectives, temporary restricted airspace is required in addition to extant PRD to segregate civil and military activity. In addition, aviators should be advised that a higher density of military aviation is anticipated in an area north of Darwin. In summary:
- Temporary restricted area (TRA) is proposed where dynamic military fast jet operations require civil exclusion to meet risk and safety requirements.
- Civil operators should be aware of the expected general area of operation in Class G airspace that will support maritime patrol aircraft and ship-borne rotary wing aviation activities.
- There will be a requirement for diversion routes around exercise airspace, to be published via AIP SUP.
