Preparation, test and launch of orbital class vehicles requires sanitised airspace to ensure flight safety for all airspace users.

    The issue

    • Preparation and test of orbital launch vehicle will require sanitised airspace to ensure safety of flight for all airspace users
    • Orbital launch from Bowen will require sanitised airspace to ensure safety of flight for all airspace users
    • Proposed Restricted Area (RA), Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) and Danger Areas (DA) will be designed in line with Manual of Air Traffic Services (MATS) guidelines
    • Proposed RA, TRA and DA will be activated for minimum time necessary in cooperation with CASA and Airservices Australia

    Purpose

To seek feedback from interested parties on the potential effects of airspace measures to support safe launch to orbit from Bowen Orbital Spaceport (BOS).

Gilmour Space proposes to control the risk to safety of flight around the BOS through the designation of restricted and danger areas which will be activated for the minimum time and over the minimum area to contain potential debris resulting from space launch activities from the BOS. The areas will vary for every launch azimuth used but will follow the same design methodology for each launch.
