    Corryong paragliding

Seeking feedback on a proposed Temporary Danger Area (TDA), encompassing both Class E and G airspace, to safely facilitate a paragliding (PG) competition and increase safety and awareness of airspace users.

    The issue

    • A NOTAM will be raised to inform airspace users of gliding activity in the area
    • After all competitors have completed flying activities, the NOTAM will be cancelled
    • If the airspace is not required for the day, then the NOTAM will be cancelled.

    Purpose

The annual “Corryong Paragliding Open” competition will be held from 28 January 2023 until 4 February 2023. A TDA has been requested from between 0000 and 0800 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) during these dates.

Gliding operations should remain within a 50-kilometre (km) radius of Corryong township, Victoria. Competitors will utilise Mount Elliot paragliding Launch area and operate from the surface up to 10000 feet above mean sea level (AMSL). Gliders will operate in Class E and G airspace, within a TDA established for the purpose of safely operating the competition. This will be the only TDA associated with this competition.

The Corryong PG Open is internationally recognised and draws competitors from around the world, as well as being part of the Australian Championships. This event involves up to 80 gliders racing around a course defined by a series of GPS waypoints to the west of Khancoban and Wallwa in Victoria.
Prior to 2230 UTC (0930 local) each day, the Competition Director will liaise with Airservices to advise if gliding is intended within the TDA.
If the airspace is not required, the NOTAM will be cancelled.
On completion of activities or after gliders have vacated the TDA, the NOTAM will be cancelled.
A NOTAM about Corryong PG flying activity shall be issued by the Office of Airspace Regulation (OAR) for the period of the competition.
NOTAM of the activated TDA will also be issued by the OAR for the time period that it intends to be used.
