Exercise Diamond Storm 2024 - Northern Territory & Western Australia

Joint Area Control Cell (JACC) requests feedback on proposed single additional Configuration Alpha Major activation, 10:30  am to 2 pm ACST on 05 June 2024

The issue

• Activation of groups of TRA required between RAAF Darwin and RAAF Curtin, conditional status RA2
• Multiple air routes affected, diversion routes to be published in AIP SUP • Priority departure windows for MIL ACFT (Darwin)
• Access to TRA is limited to aircraft with a declared emergency or undertaking operations in the preservation of life and property.

Purpose

JACC requests feedback on proposed Temporary Restricted Airspace (TRA) and associated Temporary Danger Areas (TDA) in support of military Exercise Diamond Storm 2024 (DSM24) 05 to 26 June 2024, to be employed between RAAF Darwin, NT, RAAF Tindal, NT, and RAAF Curtin, WA.

Exercise Diamond Storm is a Major exercise incorporating a wide range of tactical flying activities across northern Australia over the period 05 to 26 June 2024. To support the training, additional airspace is proposed to encompass military flying activities between RAAF Darwin and RAAF Curtin. The TRA and TDA will be activated in groups by time to facilitate various training objectives.

High volumes of military aircraft conducting complex manoeuvres will operate from various North Australian locations. Due to the specific training aims and the need to protect other airspace users, additional temporary airspace is required. Additional measures are needed to support the activity at RAAF Darwin, which will be included within a subsequent AIP SIP.
