Flight Information Service (FIS) in the Pilbara - Phase 2

Airservices is progressing a program to rectify identified deficiencies in the accessibility, timeliness and integrity of the Flight Information Service (FIS) in the Pilbara region in accordance with a CASA Direction. 

The program includes comprehensive engagement with airspace users, aerodrome operators and other interested stakeholders.  Phase 1 of consultation informed the submission to CASA of Airservices’ Draft FIS Rectification Plan. 

Phase 2 of industry consultation seeks to validate the proposed FIS rectification approach, including key assumptions, priority site selections, operational feasibility and measures of progress, through stakeholder feedback. 

The intended outcome is to ensure alignment with the scope of the CASA Direction, and that: 

• Airservices’ investment is targeting the areas in the Pilbara region with the greatest operational complexity experienced by a broad range of airspace users; and
• the proposed FIS solution is practicable and will improve pilot situational awareness and cognitive workload.

Stakeholder feedback will inform the Pilbara FIS Final Rectification Plan.
