    Amend Learmonth special use airspace (SUA) to provide a greater flexible use of airspace and better reflect Defence activities with a scalable construct.

    The issue

    • Amend Learmonth SUA with segregated airspace volumes that better reflect Defence usage and provide airspace efficiencies
    • Allow access to Exmouth Airport
    • Coastal boundary to the west to allow civil operators to remain in Class G airspace This proposal is being developed for inclusion in AIRAC 2612 publication 26 Nov 26.

    Purpose

    Defence is proposing a change to the modernise the permanent SUA surrounding RAAF Base Learmonth. This change will allow Defence to conduct activities at RAAF Base Learmonth while enhancing the flexible use of airspace. Further changes are expected to the airspace outside of 40NM Learmonth, and will be proposed in future consultations.

    Proposal

    This proposal will allow Defence to conduct activities at RAAF Base Learmonth more effectively whilst minimising the impact to local aviation. This proposal has been designed to provide a scalable approach to airspace management and air traffic services when required.
