Exercise Diamond Spear 24 will require a number of Temporary Military Operating Areas (MOAs) and Danger Areas, as well as airspace reservations.
• Activation of multiple MOAs in addition to permanent Amberley/Williamtown/EAXA Special Use Airspace (SUA) off the NSW/South QLD coast.
• Activation of multiple Airspace Reservation corridors to link disparate SUA/TM volumes near the Sydney and Brisbane areas. Potential imposition of some level requirements to aircraft departing/arriving at Sydney and Brisbane to/from the east/off-shore.
• Multiple air routes affected, with diversion routes to be published in AIP SUP.
• Non-participant access to TM limited to aircraft with an in-flight emergency or those with priority status engaged in preservation of life operations (ie MEDEVAC, SAR, FFR).
• The airspace configuration proposed in this consultation is the same as that proposed for Exercise Diamond Shield 24, 11 – 27 Mar 24, which has its own AvSEF consultation.
The Joint Airspace Control Cell requests feedback on proposed Temporary Military Operating Areas (TM), Temporary Danger Area (TDA) and procedures for Exercise DIAMOND SPEAR 2024, 14 – 24 May 2024, to be employed off the QLD/NSW Coast between Brisbane and Sydney.
Elements of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) will be conducting Exercise ‘DIAMOND SPEAR 2024 (DSP24)’ over the period 14 – 24 May 2024.
DSP24 is a large-scale military flying activity, involving a wide range of aircraft, including heavy fixed wing and numerous fast jets, conducting dynamic flying off the NSW/South QLD Coast. Flying activities include air-to-air refuelling, dynamic and unpredictable manoeuvres, and high speed tactics with and without the use of transponders.
Several MOAs, one Temporary Danger Area (TDA), and several Airspace Reservations (AIR RES) are proposed to support the military flying in addition to permanent Williamtown, Amberley and East Australian Exercise Area (EAXA) airspace. These proposed volumes are also being consulted for Exercise Diamond Shield 2024, occurring between 11 – 27 March 2024.
