Amendment to the original proposal: To seek members feedback on the airspace and procedures for Exercise Vigilant Scimitar 2022, specifically to be employed at Charters Towers

    The issue

Through consultation of the original proposal, feedback and engagement with affected operators has resulted in the assessment that the air traffic service (ATS) provided within the proposed TRA should be Class D in lieu of Class C. The rationale for this change is to, as far as practicable, enhance access and flexibility without impact to safety.  This re-issue of the original consultation paper seeks feedback regarding the proposal to provide a Class D ATS within the proposed TRA at YCHT.

    • Activation of Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) Charters Towers around Charters Towers Aerodrome
    • RAAF Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Charters Towers providing an Aerodrome Control Service (Class D)
    • Civilian aircraft can expect access to Charters Towers Aerodrome and TRA by following Class D procedures
    • Aim is to safely integrate military flying activities and normal civilian operations at Charters Towers.
