The Bureau of Meteorology would like to advise members of a new Yeoval weather radar.
The Bureau of Meteorology is committed to ensuring the communities of central western New South Wales have access to the best weather information they need when it matters most.
As part of this commitment, images from the newly installed Yeoval weather radar are now live on the Bureau of Meteorology's website and the BOM Weather app.
The dual-polarised Doppler radar is one of the best tools for observing real-time rainfall and wind conditions across large areas. The benefits include:
The new radar will provide coverage to much of Central Western New South Wales, benefitting communities as far as Orange, Dubbo, Mudgee and Cowra.
The Yeoval radar is the final of 3 new weather radars in western New South Wales, funded through a $24.5 million election commitment by the NSW Government. The other 2 radars in Brewarrina and Hillston are now operational.
This is part of the most significant upgrade to Australia's radar and observation network in a generation. By June 2024, the Bureau is delivering 8 new radars, plus upgrades to 46 existing radars, almost 700 automatic weather stations and 200 flood warning network sites across the country.
