Proposal to establish multiple TRAs and a TDA in support of rocket launch activities

To seek members' feedback on the proposal to establish multiple Temporary Restricted Areas (TRAs) and one Temporary Danger Area (TDA) in support of multiple rocket launches.

Purpose

To mitigate residual airspace risks posed by the rocket launch activities, two TRAs and a TDA are proposed that extend from SFC to a maximum of FL450.

Proposal

Vertical Rocket Launches

Due to proximity of permanent military restricted airspace, different arrangements are requested on weekdays and weekends for vertical rocket launch activities. On weekdays, the TRA is limited to 2.5 n mile from the launch site and to an upper limit of FL200. On weekends, the TRA extends 7 n mile from the launch site and to an upper limit of FL450.

Impacted air traffic service (ATS) routes: Y153, H12, W353

Horizontal Rocket Launches

A TDA of fixed lateral and vertical dimensions is requested for all horizontal launch activities.

Dates for Launch:

• 03/07/2023 to 07/07/2023 (weekdays) and 08/07/2023 to 09/07/2023 (weekends)
• 17/07/2023 to 21/07/0223 (weekdays) and 22/07/2023 to 23/07/2023 (weekends)
• 31/07/2023 to 04/08/2023 (weekdays) and 05/08/2023 to 06/08/2023 (weekends)
• 14/08/2023 to 18/08/2023 (weekdays) and 19/08/2023 to 20/08/2023 (weekends)

3 windows on each day (not including Thursdays) between:

• 0800 - 0900 Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST)
• 1000 - 1100 AEST
• 1200 - 1400 AEST

4 windows on Thursdays between:

• 0800 - 0900 AEST
• 1000 - 1100 AEST
• 1200 - 1300 AEST
• 1430 - 1530 AEST
