Proposal to commence amateur rocket launch activities at the Stonefield Aerodrome.
Currently, there is no suitable site in South Australia (SA) for amateur rocket launches.
The South Australian Rocketry Club (SARC) is seeking to establish a temporary launch site at the Stonefield Aerodrome, Lot 252, Steinfeld SA 5356 with an 8500 feet ceiling.
We have received the approval of the Aerodrome operator, have commenced conversations with CASA Sport and are in the process of completing an Airspace Change Proposal (ACP).
SARC is seeking to begin launches from the Stonefield Aerodrome, Steinfeld SA 5356.
The outcome of the consultation will be used to support our ACP submission.
SARC was founded to give an opportunity for South Australian students and amateur rocketeers the opportunity to undertake launches. Currently, there is no suitable site in SA, and those wishing to undertake amateur launches have to drive at least eight hours to Victoria to participate in launches.
The proposed launch site is the Stonefield Aerodrome, Lot 252, Steinfeld SA 5356. We are proposing a 8500 feet ceiling and launches are planned to be during daylight, monthly, in the non-fire season - approximately April to November but will vary from year to year. A NOTAM will be issued in advance of any launch activities.
Launches are planned to be during daylight, monthly, in the non-fire season - approximately April to November but will vary from year to year. Rockets will range in dimension from around 30 centimetres (cm) x 1.8cm through to 2 metres x 10cm. The launch infrastructure is set up and packed away on the day of launch.
We have received the approval of the Aerodrome operator (Stonefield Aviation Association) and have commenced conversations with CASA Sport who have requested that we complete an ACP, thus this consultation.
A summary presentation and risk assessment are provided.
