Airservices Australia is proposing to permanently amend the weekend operating hours for Rockhampton control tower.

    The issue

Rockhampton Tower provides an aerodrome control service within the control zone of Rockhampton Airport. The proposed changes to tower operating hours on weekends will better align Air Traffic Control (ATC) service coverage with scheduled flight movements, allow for more effective and efficient staff rostering, provide greater roster resilience and contingency coverage options for disruption, and may reduce fatigue risk for certain shift patterns.

The proposed change is detailed in the table below.

Table 1: Proposed amendment to ATC hours (all times local).
    Day  Current Hours Proposed Hours
    Monday - Friday 0630 - 2035 0630 - 2035 (unchanged)
    Saturday 0630 - 1930 0630 - 1745
    Sunday  0700 - 2035 0900 - 2035

All other air traffic services detailed in the En Route Supplement Australia (ERSA), including procedures outside of tower hours, would remain unchanged.

    Purpose

Airservices Australia is proposing to amend the weekend operating hours of the ATC tower at Rockhampton Airport (YBRK).

    Proposal

Subject to approval by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Airservices intends to implement this change as soon as practicable, however no specific date or period is being proposed by Airservices.
