Airservices Australia requests feedback on revised air traffic control tower hours at Albury Airport, closing on Sundays and Mondays starting December 22 2024.

    Purpose

Airservices Australia propose to extend the amendment of air traffic control tower operating hours at Albury Airport for an additional 90 days. Initially, it had been communicated that Sunday services would be reinstated between 11 am and 5 pm local time starting October 20 2024.

However, due to unforeseen resource constraints, these plans have been revised. Effective December 22 2024, the tower will remain closed on Sundays and Mondays. This adjustment is intended to address ongoing operational challenges while maintaining the safety and efficiency of air traffic services at Albury Airport.

    Proposal

Airservices Australia propose to amend tower hours as detailed in the table below, effective 22 December 2024, for a period of 90 days.

ERSA (local) Current (local)   Proposed (local)
Day(s) Start End Start End Day(s) Start End
    Mon – Fri 0615 2030 0900 1800 Tue – Fri  0900 1800
    Sat 0900 1700 0900 1700 Sat 0900 1700
    Sun 0900 2030 1100 1700 Sun – Mon Closed

The proposed hours ensure safe, efficient, and predictable air traffic services at Albury while we continue our training efforts, with a return to enroute supplement Australia (ERSA) hours expected from March 2025.
Please note, Albury Class C and D airspace 8,500 Feet above mean sea level (AMSL) and below becomes Class G outside tower hours.
CASA has requested us to highlight the importance that all pilots are familiar and operate in accordance with the new flight operations regulations described within Part 91.

    These include:

    • take-off or landing at non-controlled aerodromes
    • understanding the definition of the vicinity of a non-controlled aerodrome (91.360)
    • operating on manoeuvring area, or in the vicinity, of a non-controlled aerodrome (91.375)
    • operating on manoeuvring area, or in the vicinity, of a non-controlled aerodrome – landing and taking off into the wind (91.380)
    • operating on manoeuvring area, or in the vicinity, of non-controlled aerodrome – requirements that apply after joining the circuit pattern (91.385)
    • operating on manoeuvring area, or in the vicinity, of non-controlled aerodrome – requirements related to maintaining the same track after take-off (91.390)
    • straight-in approaches at non-controlled aerodromes (91.395).

See the CASA website for further information.
