Defence proposes to amend the centre point and horizontal extent of R533 to de-conflict the current RA with neighbouring properties.

    The issue

    • The current Restricted Area (RA) extends for 2nm from a centre point within Explosive Ordnance (EO) depot Myambat.
    • This coverage currently extends beyond the Commonwealth property Boundary, imposing an unnecessary restriction on neighbouring properties.
    • The amendment seeks to reduce and relocate the extent of the RA, de-conflicting neighbouring properties while maintaining the RA over explosive storage buildings.

    Purpose

Defence seeks feedback on a proposal to amend the centre point and horizontal extent of R533 from 2nm to 1nm.

    Proposal

R533 was created by Defence as an RA3 airspace to contain the activities of the Myambat Defence explosives depot.

Currently, the RA extends beyond the Commonwealth Property Boundary (CPB). This imposes restrictions on neighboring properties, at least one of which contains an airstrip. This proposal seeks to reduce the RA horizontal extent to 1nm from 2nm, and to re-locate the centre point within the depot to largely maintain the RA within the CPB.
