Snowy Valleys Council would like feedback on the safety and operational effects for Tumut Aerodrome (YTMU) to utilise a discrete VHF channel.

    The issue

    • Create a common frequency between the Aerodrome Frequency Response Unit (AFU) and Tumut Aerodrome CTAF frequency
    • Proximity to surrounding Aerodromes causing frequency congestion

    Purpose

Tumut aerodrome upgrade is near completion and in the process of certifying new runway lighting which is proposed to be pilot-activated, it is preferred that YTMU utilities a discrete VHF channel.

    Proposal

This proposal seeks to improve aircraft-to-aircraft communications within the vicinity of Tumut Aerodrome, there would be a reduction in overlapping communications between Cootamundra (YCTM), Young (YYNG), Adaminaby (YADY), Corryong (YCRG) and others using 126.7 MHz in the area.
The new CTAF frequency channel will be assigned by Airservices at the request of CASA.
