Defence proposes to establish a permanent danger area above Northam training area to actively manage the hazard of activities conducted therein.
Northam training area does not have any associated special use airspace (SUA) advising of hazards associated with the training area that are relevant to aviators.
Establishment of a permanent danger area, activated by Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) will positively communicate when small arms hazards are present in the training area.
The airspace is the minimum required to contain the hazard, and activation via NOTAM ensures maximum flexibility.
