The Sports Aviation Federation of Australia (SAFA) is seeking feedback on a proposed Temporary Danger Area (TDA), encompassing Class G airspace, to safely facilitate a paragliding fly-in event.
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (ACTHPA) and Melbourne Skyhigh Paragliding Club, in conjunction with SAFA, will be running the Corryong Interclub Fly-In 2023 paragliding event from the 7 April 2023 to 11 April 2023. To support this, The ACTHPA, Skyhigh Paragliding Clubs and SAFA are applying for the establishment of a TDA in Class G airspace over the main area of operations for the duration of the event.
This proposed TDA may affect other Class G airspace users in the vicinity.
The Corryong interclub fly-in 2023 is a paragliding meet to promote pilot skills in mountain flying and cross-country flights for all pilot levels. The Corryong interclub fly-in will run from 09:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on Friday 7 April until 19:00 AEST on Monday 11 April 2023 (Easter Holiday Weekend).
A maximum of 120 paraglider aircraft will be participating, flying daily tasks from 09:00 AEST to 19:00 AEST.
Flying will be confined to the volume of Class G airspace enclosed by the red area on the attached diagram below.
In addition to the TDA, SAFA has applied for a NOTAM and an exemption for participating pilots from the carriage and use of VHF radio communications whilst flying. Properly authorised ground-based operators will monitor and conduct VHF communications and relay information to pilots via UHF radio transmissions.
