Defence is proposing to activate a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) overhead Puckapunyal Training area from 0800-1200 local time on 26 November 2024.

    The issue

    • Establishment of TRA to ensure the safety of flight overhead Puckapunyal Training Area.
    • Airspace expected to be activated from 0800-1200 local time on the 26 November 2024 through the issue of a YMMM NOTAM.
    • Proposed airspace is within extant class 'C' and 'A' airspace administered by Airservices Australia.

    Purpose

This consultation is intended to inform the aviation community on Defence's intent to activate a TRA over Puckapunyal Training Area in order to contain activities dangerous to the safety of flight on 26 November 2024. In June 2025, a permanent restricted area will be established in the same volume to cater for future activities.

    Proposal

TRA 'RIGBY' is proposed to be established from 0800-1200 local time on 26 November 2024 in order to extend the vertical limits of the Puckapunyal Training Area (R350A and R350B) to encompass planned dangerous activities. TRA 'RIGBY' has the following dimensions:

    TRA 'RIGBY'
    Conditional Status: RA2
    Military Non-Flying
    Lateral Limits: 370130S 1444930E – 365240S 1444930E – 365000S 1445600E – 365230S 1445600E – 365235S 1450345E – 365500S 1450530E – 370130S 1445900E – 370130S 1444930E
    Vertical Limits: FL200 – FL230
    Hours of Activity: NOTAM
    Controlling Authority: Army RCO Puckapunyal

Exact timings of the TRA activation will be confirmed by YMMM NOTAM.

This TRA will be incorporated into aeronautical information publications as a permanent restricted area (R350C) from June 2025 and it is the Joint Airspace Control Cell's (JACC) intent to provide public advisory of any proposed activations of TRA 'RIGBY' up until this point through AVSEF publications.

The JACC invites any feedback on this proposal to be sent to adf.airspace@defence.gov.au
