The RAAF Roulettes are planning a temporary restricted area (TRA) over the MCG on the 10th and 11th September, for periods up to 10 minutes.
For safety of flight, the TRA is being proposed over the MCG due to a Roulettes formation flypast Display being conducted Thursday afternoon, approximately 3:30pm local on the 10th September and again Friday morning, approximately 10:30am local 11th September 2026.
Department of Defence requests feedback on this proposal from local area stakeholders including Essendon, Moorabbin, and Melbourne Airport operators. A TRA will be established around the MCG and active for up to 10 minutes to facilitate various formation elements (check NOTAMs for final timings).
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Roulettes are planning a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) over the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Thursday 10th September and Friday 11th September 2026. The TRA will be for a short duration to manage formation elements in proximity to the MCG.
A TRA of up to 10 minutes will be established around the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to facilitate the management of formation elements in proximity to the MCG.
Location Centre: 37ᵒ49'12"S 144ᵒ59'00"E (Melbourne Cricket Ground, VIC).
Dimensions: Surface (SFC) – Base of Controlled Airspace (BCTA) within 2.5 nautical miles (n miles) centre point MCG
Aircraft: 6 x PC-21, with other formation elements TBC
Hours of activity: Approximately 3:30pm - 3:40pm local time (check NOTAMs) 10th September 2026 Approximately 10:30am - 10:40am local time (check NOTAMs) 11th September 2026
Operations within controlled airspace (CTA) above the TRA for Melbourne Airport (YMML), Essendon Airport (YMEN) and Moorabbin Airport (YMMB) should have minimal to no impact and will remain under Airservices Australia control.
Department of Defence will be the controlling authority for the TRA. No entry into the TRA will be permitted without approval from Department of Defence on (03) 5169 9837.
Note: The flypast and formation elements will pause if required due any aeromedical/police operational requirements. Facilitation of these operations shall be coordinated by contacting “Roulettes” with “(Callsign) - Priority traffic request” on ML CEN 135.7 MHz. ATC will also coordinate with emergency services requiring operational use of the airspace as required.
