A temporary Restricted Area (TRA) is proposed above HMAS Stirling for an Air Force flying display to ensure safety of non-participant aicraft.

    The issue

Elements of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) are conducting a handling display and flypast over HMAS Stirling. To facilitate this, the ADF is seeking to establish TRA 'APPLES'.

    Purpose

Defence is seeking feedback regarding a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) overhead HMAS Stirling to be activated in support of a Military Flying Display.

    Proposal

The handling display and flypast in support of HMAS Stirling requires segregated airspace to account for high-speed and abrupt manoeuvres associated with an aerobatic display. Due to this requirement, the use of TRA is proposed to enable unimpeded access for supporting assets and to ensure the safety of non-participant aircraft.

The proposed TRA has the following limits.

    YMMM/TRA ‘APPLES’
    CONDITIONAL STATUS: RA3
    MILITARY FLYING
    LATERAL LIMITS: A circle radius 5.00NM centre 321630S 1154200E
    VERTICAL LIMITS: SFC – 6000
    HOURS OF ACTIVITY: NOTAM
CONTROLLING AUTHORITY: Australian Defence Force (details to be confirmed by AIP SUP)

The expected timings are 09 May 2026 0400Z - 0415Z (12:00 - 12:15 local) and will be confirmed by NOTAM.

    TRA 'APPLES'

Transit of TRA 'APPLES' by non-participant aircraft is not available except for:

    - Aircraft operating in the preservation of life or property (MEDEVAC, FFR, POL, SAR)
    - Aircraft with a declared emergency.
