This advisory regards the Galah Rocket Project Launch by the USYD Rocketry Team. The launch will be undertaken at Tolarno Station, NSW.
This advisory notice is to inform airspace users that the University of Sydney Rocketry Team (URT) will be launching the Galah Hybrid Rocket Project from Tolarno Station, NSW (32°45’32”S, 142°29’6”E). As such, airspace users should be aware of rocket launching activity from 7 - 10 April 2026.
The Galah Rocket has an estimated apogee of 10,000ft, and a worst-case ballistic trajectory (including a buffer) of 5km. As such, there will be a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) in place within 6NM of the launch site extending from surface to FL125 to provide a buffer for aircraft in the vicinity.
The TRA will be active from 1000-1700 local time from 7 - 10 April, with multiple launch windows to permit for preparation delays such as adverse weather. As part of the launch procedures URT will notify Airservices Australia at least 30 minutes before the intended launch.
Additionally, URT will monitor Class G airspace for aircraft before and during the launch activities. This will include a member maintaining visual contact with the area, a member on aircraft radio and a member on flight radar.
For further details please contact URT at the email address provided.
