Airservices Australia will now lead industry engagement for the Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) detailed flight path and airspace design (detailed design) and implementation.
Airservices Australia is supporting WSI (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport in their quest to be a world-class smart airport, built to service 10 million passengers per year from day one when it opens in 2026.
The Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government has authorised the preliminary airspace and flight paths for WSI on 4 June 2025.
Prior to this date, industry engagement activity was led by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport, and the Arts (the department) with subject matter expertise provided by Airservices Australia, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), Department of Defence, and supporting consultants.
Airservices Australia will now lead industry engagement for the WSI detailed flight path and airspace design (detailed design) and implementation.
The detailed design process will include simulation testing and ongoing safety assessments, industry consultation on noise abatement procedures, and information to raise awareness of how the flightpaths and airspace will operate.
Airservices will utilise the engagement platform, Engage Airservices, for all engagement on WSI detailed design and implementation.
