It is proposed that a single Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) be established south of extant Woomera Restricted Areas (WRX) from Surface (SFC) - Flight Level (FL) 245.
The use of this airspace is proposed to be between 06 May and 09 June 2024. However, TRA is expected to be activated for between 4 to 6 hours as needed throughout this period, subject to T&E (project) timeline and environmental conditions.
Defence intends to conduct trial and experimentation (T&E) within the Woomera Prohibited Area (WPA) and associated WRX. To ensure public safety, a proposed TRA will be required to protect aviation users from the T&E activities.
It is proposed that a single TRA be established south of extant WRX from SFC – FL245.
The TRA will be published in an Aeronautical Information Package (AIP) Supplements (SUP) and activated by Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) for a window of 4-6 hours per event. When active but not in use, the airspace will be released to Airservices Australia (AsA) until such time that it is required for use, at which time the airspace will be resumed through tactical coordination. Once the required activity has been completed NOTAM cancellation will deactivate the TRA.
The 4-6 hour window provides Defence priority access to the airspace, enabling Exercise Control (EXCON) flexibility to execute the finite window based specific test criteria.
The TRA extends from the surface up to FL245 and access to the following airfields will be affected:
• Coondambo
• North Well
• Kingoonya
• Tarcoola
The TRA affects no new air routes which are not already affected by WRX activation.
